Ray by designer Christian Flindt for Platek: a journey into the geometries of light.
I have always been mesmerized by the magic of the sun rays that penetrate with different shades and intensity between the fronds of a forest. This is where Ray is born.
Ray is a product whose strength comes from the skilful use of technology, materials and proportions of the light body, which immediately strikes for its shape and light effect. An outdoor project, a small wall lamp, whose diffused light develops as a cone, mono or bi-directional, to ensure effective lighting. Note the attention to detail of the designer; to facilitate the outflow of water he plays with concave and convex shapes of normally horizontal surfaces, while maintaining the recessed optics to limit glare.
The designer’s research, in addition to the best technical performance, has also focused on making the aesthetics of the object interesting even with the light off. The external body is multifaceted and this segmentation distributed according to a curvilinear trend generates always different refractions of light on the surface of the wall lamp itself, which are perceived as an interesting play of shadows depending on the different points of observation in the environment.
Christian Flindt declares: “The overall design is based on a soft triangular shape. The simple geometry of the device stands out, but it is also in dialogue with the surface of the wall. The multifaceted surface of the product creates a curtain of long, narrow and individually angled surfaces. Each surface receives light from its surroundings and reflects it differently. This creates a curved parallelogram of different shades from light to dark. A play of lights and shadows from close up and a material nuance from afar. When you move relative to the lamp, the tones will change as if the surface were animated.”
Ray is a lighting fixture with attention to every detail, such as fixing to the wall using a stainless steel bracket, with a single screw, in a simple way and such as to avoid deposits and oxide grafts in environments with strong salt concentration.
Technical description
Body and components are made of extruded aluminium and die-cast aluminium in primary alloy.
This alloy used for all Platek components makes the product extremely weather-resistant as well as perfectly recyclable.
